Text Box: Annual Membership Banquet

On Saturday, January 26th the Bayou Bounty Hunters held their Annual Membership Meeting & Banquet at the club house.  The filets were prepared by Nick and crew, and they were delicious as always. Appetizers were provided by some of our club members. Our many thanks to all for their fine effort in putting on such an event. Below are the minutes from the annual membership meeting:

*Secretary Report - The minutes from the previous meeting were read and accepted.

*Treasury Report - Cameo Rose presented the detailed annual financial report . We now have approximately $13,000 in checking and $4,000 in savings. Our profit from Hangin’ at Coyote Creek 2008 was around $8,000.
There was a discussion concerning installing permanent toilet facilities on the range versus using the portable toilets which now cost us $455 annually. The proposal to install permanent toilet facilities will be researched and the cost presented to the club.

*TG Governor’s Report - Rattlesnake Blake presented a report of the past TG Summit. The Wild Bunch side match will be part of EOT this summer and the specifications (not necessarily the same as local clubs) are in the Cowboy Chronicle. The RO and the Mod’s committees joined together at the past TG Summit. Changes will be coming and Rattlesnake requests your feedback on upcoming issues in order to deliver the club’s position.

Rattlesnake suggested that we form a Membership Committee to contact new shooters and provide ongoing support in their initial months of shooting. There are some new shooters who have come out and shot several times and perhaps need our assistance in continuing with the sport. Foard County News and Sassy Schoolmarm offered to head the Membership Committee. The club will expand the Membership Committee and a “big brother” support system. Cheyenne Hawkeye suggested that we have a list of shooters who are willing to loan guns and/or leather to new shooters until they have secured all of their required equipment.

Cooper York suggested that we incorporate more “fun” stages into our stage-writing for monthly matches. Boothill Coyote made the suggestion that we do the “fun” things prior to the timer starting.

*Construction Report - Kentucky Tom presented a detailed Construction Report consisting of “Range improvements Item for 2008” and “Completed Range Improvements in 2007.” (See his complete report below.) Kentucky Tom distributed drawings for a livery stable. His estimation is that it would cost approximately $1600 for the project. A motion was made to proceed with the livery stage and it was approved. There was also a motion to allow $1500 with a cap of $2000 to handle installation of electricity on the range, and that was also approved.

Rattlesnake Blake and Soiled Dove presented the recipients of the Spirit of Coyote Creek Award to Biscuit Sarah and Cameo Rose. The plaque for which these recipients and past recipients will be permanently mounted in the club house.

The election of the board for 2008-10 was held and the newly elected Board Members at Large are: Apache Belle, Kentucky Tom, Louisiana Cuz and Tobin Kid. The current executive board was unopposed.

	The meeting was adjourned.

Howdy Pards, this here is ole Rattlesnake a’scribblin to ya. The weather for the February match was great. We had three posses that moved through the stages with ease. I have received a number of very positive comments on the stages. The kudos go to Capt. Dan and Soiled Dove. Kudos also go to Apache Belle for the stories. I hope to see more of you contributing stages in the future. All you have to do is send them to me, and I will go over them. If I have to change anything, I will let you know what needed to be changed and why. The mine shaft which was designed by Capt. Dan received a number of great comments, as did the wagon stage written by Soiled Dove. Congratulations to both of you for your stages.

Moving on to a more serious subject. For years now, I have told my Range Officer classes that, “The fate of the free world does not depend upon how a particular match goes.” When a call goes against us, it does not matter whether we believe it to be wrongfully called or not. It does not matter how it was delivered either. This last match I responded angrily to a call that I believed to be wrong at the end of shooting a stage. It occurred coming off the adrenaline high that most of us experience immediately after shooting the stage. That was not a viable excuse to be angry either. Whether or not I felt wronged, I should have just walked off rather than responding back. Shame on me. I know better, and I teach the proper response as well. It just goes to show that any of us are susceptible to this at some time during our shooting experience. It is very discouraging for me to have to recount this event; however, if it helps someone else who might start to react to a call, then it was worth the pain. A close friend who was there told me that he had never seen me get angry at a call, and that he was disappointed to see me respond as I did. Particularly considering my position as a teacher, I should set the example. He reminded me that it did not matter whether or not I was right. All that mattered was how I responded. He was right. From here on out, I will do what I have taught for so many years. If I strongly feel that a call is wrong, I have the right to vote with my feet. I have learned a valuable lesson that will serve me well in the future. I hope that this narrative will serve you as well.

March is going to be a busy month. We will be having a Ladies Shooting Clinic, on the first Saturday of the month. Diamond Lilly along with Soiled Dove, will be there to coach. We will also be having a Long Range shooting Clinic on the last Saturday of the month which will be taught by El Otro Doc. I will be scheduling Range Officer classes in the near future. I had thought about trying to have them in March, but decided that there is enough going on. However, I will be teaching an RO I class at the Mississippi State Match in April. If you are going to be there, come join in on the class. If you have already graduated from the class, I encourage you to monitor the class anyway. There are a number of new rules, and there is no cost to monitor the class. The month of May will probably be a good time to hold classes at our range. I am also looking to scheduling another stage writing class in the near future.

I hope that this column finds you all well and tuned up for the next match. May the Good Lord take a’shinin to ya, an remember to keep yore powder dry.

Text Box: March Side Match
By Crazy Emmitt
The idea is to have some fun with your NON-cowboy guns and to compete against your cowboy guns. So, bring your Les Bauer semi-auto pistol with the ported barrel and the holographic sights.
Bring your Glocks, bring your Kimbers, and bring your hi-cap mags.  Also, bring a pistol-caliber rifle such as a Ruger 10-22 or a Marlin Camp gun.  Finally, bring along your favorite modern shotgun, pump or semi-auto.
Here’s the plan…We will shoot one of the stages as usual with cowboy guns, then repeat the stage with our non-cowboy guns.  Your other guns will get to have some fun, plus you can compare your cowboy speed against your modern speed.
*****Remember, LEAD bullets only*****
If you don’t have everything needed, don’t fret.  I will provide at least one of each
type of gun, plus I have some lead 9mm ammo.
Contact Crazy Emmitt is you have any additional questions.
