Text Box: Annual Membership Banquet

On Saturday, January 30th the Bayou Bounty Hunters held their Annual Membership Meeting & Banquet at the club house.  The filets were prepared by David and Allison, and they were absolutely delicious. Appetizers were provided by some of our club members. Below are the minutes from the annual membership meeting:

      * Secretary Report - The minutes from the previous meeting were read and accepted.

       * Treasury Report - Cameo Rose distributed a detailed annual financial report . We now have approximately $9,000 in checking and $4,000 in savings. Our profit from Hangin’ at Coyote Creek 2008 was approximately $5,600. (See financial report for details.)
A discussion of the guns to order for Hangin’ at Coyote Creek 2010 followed noting that our purchases for the last annual match were very profitable.

        * TG Governor’s Report - Rattlesnake Blake presented a report of the past TG Summit. All items at the Summit in December 2009 failed to pass. However, after a demonstration at the Summit, it was noted that 90% of what is now legal is within the present code. There is a question regarding oversized opening of the ejection port . SASS is also examining who should be able to teach a RO I class due to the misinformation that is now being presented at local clubs.

           * Political Update - Crazy Emmitt addressed the listing of guns on tax forms which is not the case. He also discussed the problems with Acorn and their registration of people to vote. It is very important to make sure that you and your friends and family are registered to vote and do so. The Chicago gun ban is before the Supreme Court which will address whether the second amendment applies to the states.

       * Construction Report - Kentucky Tom presented a detailed Construction Report consisting of “Range Improvements Item for 2010” and “Completed Range Improvements in 2009.” (See his complete report on Page 5.) Kentucky Tom distributed drawings for the proposed Loading and Unload Stations. His estimation is that it would cost approximately $500 to erect each station. The station would be construced between stages and would serve as a permanent covered loading and unloading station for the two stages. A motion was made to proceed with that construction. There was a motion approved to allow $500 for the building of the first station. A drawing of this project is posted at the clubhouse.

	* Mounted Shooting - Rattlesnake Blake noted that there is interest in a cross county course. This course could be used for mounted shooters as well as for ground shooters who could be pulled in a horse-driver wagon. Most traditional mounted shooting is done is an arena. However, this would be another venue. He will discuss the building of a corral with the FPS board of directors.

	* Hangin’ at Coyote Creek - 2010 - The BBH’s will be hosting the SASS Southwest Territorial Black Powder Shootout in November 2010. This is a five-state event which should be quite a draw for our local club. This event will also incorporate a mounted cross-country event. More details to follow. There was a discussion presented by Apache Belle regarding the stage writing for the annual match. She explained the manner in which the Washington State Match stage design was done, and it was decided that shooters could adopt a stage and be in charge of writing the stage as well as providing the necessary props for the stage for the annual match. Contact Apache Belle to see what stages are available. Once the stages are submitted, Rattlesnake will go over all of stages to make sure they are consistent in time required for shooting the stage and safety issues.

	* Officers for 2010—11 - The current board will serve for the next two-year period.

	* Florida Parish Skeet Club Recognition - Nick Brocato and Sterling Smith, officers of the skeet range, were recognized by their continue support of the cowboy club. Rattlesnake Blake recommended that shooters consider supporting the skeet club by participating in membership of both clubs. Membership in the skeet club provides the members with shooting privileges seven days a week on the cowboy range and skeet shooting on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Camping privileges with full hookup’s are also provided to skeet club members. Foard County News brought up the road to the river and it was noted that Ms. Sally has the key for access to that road.

	* Spirit of Coyote Creek - 2009 - Rattlesnake Blake and Soiled Dove presented the recipient of the Spirit of Coyote Creek Award to Running Rose. Running’ Rose has provided the club with slide show presentations at the annual banquet for a number of years, is supportive of the gun club in Amite and has participated in various efforts in support of the Bayou Bounty Hunters. The plaque for with the recipients is permanently mounted in the club house.

	The meeting was adjourned

                   Rattlesnake’s Den

Howdy Pards, this here is ole Rattlesnake a’scribblin to ya.  We surely had two fun shoots this month, our regular monthly match and the Mardi Gras shoot.  There have been several ideas forwarded to me concerning improving the range, and we am taking them under advisement.  I will then discuss them with the board and the membership.  For now, I need to review them.

There has been considerable debate with SASS over whether or not a shooter can paint their sights other than blackening them.  It is before the RO Committee for clarification at this time.  I believe that the decision will come down on the side of the original intent which is only blackening the front sight.  At this point, I would caution members to not paint their sights until a final ruling is made.

A charity shoot is being initiated by the club to support Fisher House which will be held over our regular June match weekend.  I strongly urge everyone to shoot this match as it benefits our service folks and their families.  It is a remarkable charity and certainly worth supporting.  See you there.

The membership did a wonderful job of improving the range for the last Hangin’ at Coyote Creek under the “dictatorship” of Fuhrer Kentucky Tom.  This year’s Hangin’ will be the Regional Blackpower Championship along with our annual smokeless competition.  We have several plans to improve the range even more for this prestigious match, and we encourage our members to come out and help to make these improvements a reality.  Look for Tom’s e-mails letting you know when he will be working on these projects.  Yes, the Fuhrer is cantankerous, but he has done a magnificent job spearheading all of the improvements on the range.  I know he will be looking forward to seeing everyone out there.  His able assistant  and “boy wonder” Chipola Kid will be there to absorb most of the abuse, so feel safe.  This is a great honor for our club to host the black powder regional, and we want to show off our best.

I look forward to seeing you all in March.  May the Good Lord take a’shinin to ya, an remember to keep yore powder dry.

Text Box: March Match will include the Wild Bunch Category

Pistols. Any auto loading pistol manufactured prior to 1912. This included any variations of that pistol and or its clones, so long as they conform to the original appearance of that firearm. Changes in caliber from the original is acceptable. (An example would be a Mauser C96 broomhandle, which was chambered originally for the 7.63 Mauser cartridge. Models which were later chambered for 9mm Parabellum and .45 ACP would be acceptable).
Rifles. Any pistol caliber rifle manufactured from 1884 to 1898 and or its clone is acceptable. Rifles manufactured prior to that time period would not be acceptable. Rifles must have exposed hammers. Auto loading pistols with attachable shoulder stocks may also be used.
Shotguns. Any Winchester 1897 pump shotgun or its clone that is SASS legal is acceptable. SASS dictates that the only gauges acceptable for the ’97 is either 16 or 12 gauge.

If you have any additional questions contact Rattlesnake
              at rattlesnakeblake@bellsouth.net or (985) 796-9698.

(We generally offer the Wild Bunch category on the first month of the quarter, which would be April. However, since the Mississippi Peacemaker’s match is the third weekend in April and folks will be tuning up for that event at our April match the preceding weekend, it was suggested that we hold our Wild Bunch category in March.)
