Mule Train to Georgia

           Sixteen Bayou Bounty Hunters packed their mules and took the train to Covington, GA for the Southeast Regional cowboy action shooting match.  This is by far one of the best matches you could ever attend.  Mule Camp was awarded the 2005 Match of the Year by SASS, and it was obvious to those who attended that they are still on top of their game in providing a wonder weekend of shooting.

 

           The new facilities are definitely a plus and their new shooting bays are more easily accessible.  Their relocation is definitely an improvement over their previous location, just as we have fared in our relocation to Amite.  There is an air conditioned, log-cabin clubhouse with “real” facilities for those who prefer a cut-above from the normal porta potties spread out over the range.  Inside the clubhouse were gun club members who prepared delicious breakfast and lunch menus.  The hospitality of the whole gun club (cowboy shooters and other shooting disciplines as well) was a real treat.

 

           For those who enjoy gathering around the camp-fire with their own “tents,” there were full electric hook-ups and water.  Trash was picked up daily and we were located between the main match stages and the long-range shooting facilities.  Gathering around the campfire watching all those black powder shooters clean their guns every evening were Kentucky Tom, Tobin Kid, Cubbie, Cap’n Dan, Apache Belle, Leatherneck, Diamond Lilly, Cameo Rose and Crazy Emmitt and Rattlesnake Blake.  Southern Outlaw, a new shooter from Hattiesburg, joined us one evening.   His comment the next day was that he would have to become one of the regular campers; otherwise, he realized that anyone not present was up for grabs and would not be there to defend their honor.  (We had some really good Harpe and Mrs. Harpe stories to tell.)

 

           Prairie Dawg, Montana Moe and Copperhead Charlie were there to ferociously throw their lead down range.  Their main shopping venture was to bring home Runnin’ Rose something to keep her cool in the summer heat.  I had told Copperhead Charlie that I would help him out (I love spending someone else’s money), but he went off on his own and did an excellent job.  Prairie Dawg may be “gaming” for new gun as he was talking seriously with Tammy at Taylor’s and could have a new gun on the way.  At the very last minute, Cooper York decided to head east and joined up with Galvez.  Cooper was  still carrying his voodoo doll for Leatherneck. 

 

           The match encompassed a Wild Bunch Shoot, a Black Powder Shootout and the regular Main Match.  Our shooters all represented the bayou land quite well, and those bringing home a buckle are below:

                      (If I omitted anyone, please understand I am getting old and sometimes a bit senile.)

 

Early Posse Shoot

 

              Once again we will be offering an Early Posse shoot during the months of June, July, August and September.  Your early posse leader is Louisiana Cuz.  Stipulations for the early shoot require at least TEN shooters to notify Louisiana Cuz prior to the shoot and to register on match day.  (It is imperative that we have at least 10 shooters to safely and efficiently run the posse.)
